Thankful – Jordan Hawkins Cover

Happy New Year y’all! Musically speaking, this year is about to be. . . well, bigger than last year.

I committed to doing a Recording-A-Day challenge for the month of January. The rules are you have to record SOMETHING every day, and once a week you have to have something worthy of posting.

Well, I set the bar pretty damn high for myself, because I started the year off with this:

Background: Jordan Hawkins is an artist you should absolutely check out, he’s a fellow 5-C grad and a very cool person. He’s also an awesome guitar player, and his music is really honest and soulful.

When I covered this piece I took the key down, and decided to only cover the first verse and the chorus. I really like the way the emotional arc of the piece turned out, with a slow build towards fervent and then a contemplative dénouement. If you listen closely to the ending you can hear some of the things I’m thankful for.

Hope you’re ready for a lot of new music this year. I’ve felt limited in the past by being “just a vocalist” and not being able to collaborate in-person during covid. But whatever, time to get creative with it I guess.

Thanks so much for listening, and for being here!

xoxo
