FINALLY, the long overdue original music you’ve been promised.
I actually recorded this awhile ago, and then proceeded to forget about it for months! It’s an experimental piece, based on the story of Dido Queen of Carthage. Her story comes down to us most famously in the Aeneid. Her kingdom is described as being healthy, strong, and impressive. She seems to be a badass queen.
Of course, badass women in the ancient world never received the respect they deserve. Dido falls in love with our “hero” Aeneas. When Aeneas and his fleet make the decision to leave Carthage in order to fulfill their “destiny” of founding what would later become Rome, Dido is distraught. So distraught in fact, that she throws herself onto a burning pyre.
Or so Virgil says.
Dido captured my imagination so much that I wrote this piece just for her. A lament for the way she had been characterized and discussed throughout history. A lament for the way that men are always remembered for their strongest moment, and women for their weakest.
All the writing, composition, vocals, and recording/editing are my own.
Thanks so much for listening, and for being here.
xoxo,
